Helping Businesses build stronger legal skills

Training

As businesses grow rapidly, legal departments too have to grow to support them. In this rapid growth environment, training is often left by the way side as legal counsel are forced to prioritise immediate business requirements over training needs.

HB Law addresses this need by offering training services to businesses and in-house legal counsel.

  • Our services will further junior professionals’ career development, accelerate the careers of mid-career professionals, and lighten the burden of training on senior professionals.
  • Our training programmes are designed in collaboration with senior in-house counsel, to combine their specific domain expertise with our broad knowledge and experience.
  • Our comprehensive approach to training produces training material that is relevant and re-usable.

Our approach

Our founding partner has conceptualised and delivered multiple training sessions for lawyers of varying experience both in-house in India and the United Kingdom, and at law firms in India and the United Kingdom.

  • Our programmes will be simple and accessible. We will translate “black-letter” legal information into accessible, business-friendly information.
  • We will leverage our founding partner’s cross-jurisdictional exposure in providing training services. This lets us explain how the same legal or regulatory issue can manifest in different ways in different geographies and also draw out the different approaches taken by regulators in different jurisdictions.
  • We will leverage our founding partner’s experience both at law firms and in in-house roles to consider multiple practical facets to a legal or regulatory issue. This includes the differences in sophistication of approaches to an issue and gaps in culture, communication, and project management. The junior professionals we train can take a more informed approach to their work.
  • We also draw from our founding partner’s experience in different business sectors, for example in the technology and financial sectors, to design and implement training programmes in areas of business that leverage complementarities between multiple sectors.

Selected examples of our founding partner’s recent work experience

  • Developed and delivered training programmes for a global financial services leader (at their London operations) as they set out to establish firm-wide governance structures to comply with new European regulations. The training programmes were designed to familiarise the firm’s vastly experienced legal and compliance team members with the content of the new regulations and help be better equipped to understand and analyse the impact of the regulations on the firm’s operations.
  • Implemented a comprehensive training programme on the proposed Personal Data Protection Bill for the junior and mid-level associates of a Chambers-listed technology law firm in Bengaluru. The programme comprised a detailed analysis of the proposed bill and the accompanying legislative committee report, including driving and coordinating joint review sessions and delivering a response to the legislative consultation.
  • Conducted numerous training sessions on the elements of a global in-house legal function at a leading global technology services firm for junior and mid-level associates. Conducted a training programme to orient junior lawyers at a leading global law firm to the perspectives of in-house lawyers.
  • Part of the Alumni Alternative Careers Panel focussed on orienting new entrants in the Masters in Law and Finance course at the University of Oxford to international careers in the law between 2016 and 2020. The sessions, which were delivered both in person, and virtually, comprised sharing of cross-sectoral and cross-jurisdictional experiences. Chaired the Alumni Alternative Career Panel in 2020.
